Refresh Financial's CEO, Michael Wendland, together with enRICHed Academy and former Dragons Jim Treliving and Bruce Croxon, today announced the launch of a financial literacy training program - Refresh FIT™ (standing for Financial Intelligence Training). The program is launching in response to the record-high debt levels and chronically low savings rates in Canada today.

"We can talk about the debt situation in Canada over and over again, but the only way to enact real change is to offer financial literacy programs," says former Dragons' Den star Jim Treliving, who is backing Refresh FIT™ through a partnership with enRICHed Academy, a financial literacy program originally pitched on the Den in 2013.

Refresh FIT™ will focus on the basic building blocks of financial empowerment - covering topics such as money myths, credit and credit cards, and budgeting; while providing insightful training on managing daily finances, building wealth, and establishing a personal brand. The program, which will be available free of charge to all Refresh Financial clients, will involve weekly training videos released over the course of 6-8 months. Each week the program will focus on a different financial skill.

"It's no secret that Canadians' propensity to accumulate debt stems from a lack of understanding of basic finances. Most schools across the country do not offer basic financial literacy skills. Refresh FIT™ is really about empowering people - especially those who are already financially vulnerable - by helping them understand their finances and make better decisions with their money," says Refresh Financial's CEO Michael Wendland.

The recently released 2015 federal budget confirmed that financial literacy is also a priority for the Canadian government. Jane Rooney, Canada's Financial Literacy Leader, who is spearheading the taskforce responsible for the nation-wide financial literacy strategy recently remarked that, "collaboration among all individuals and organizations invested in improving the financial literacy of Canadian consumers is critical to success."

With the help of Jim Treliving and Bruce Croxon and the enRICHed platform, the program is set to be best free training currently available in Canada. Wendland believes it will give clients a new perspective on saving and personal finances.
