"Fine Uploader Version 3.8 Offers Direct Uploads to Amazon S3"

Native and Customizable JavaScript Uploader Library Now Provides the Development Community With Upload-to-S3 Functionality on All Browsers

MADISON, WI--(Marketwired - Aug 20, 2013) - Fine Uploader, the world's best native, highly customizable JavaScript file uploader library, announced today the release of Fine Uploader v3.8, which features the ability to upload directly to Amazon S3 from a web browser. Whereas previously developers had to send file bytes to a local server, handle the associated requests and then send files up to S3, with Fine Uploader 3.8 web developers can now upload files directly to Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) buckets.

Fine Uploader makes file-uploading on the web possible in every browser and mobile device. Dependency-free and 100 percent JavaScript, Fine Uploader allows integrators to fine-tune and customize every aspect of the users' upload experience.

"I've really been looking forward to this release and what it brings to the development community," said Ray Nicholus, lead developer on Fine Uploader. "It brings developers of all types, working with applications and websites of all types, increased scalability, less server-side complexity, bandwidth savings and compatibility with all browsers that Fine Uploader already supports for traditional uploads -- including IE7."

One of the most notable attributes of Fine Uploader's open source code base is its renowned browser support. Uploads directly to S3 are supported on all browsers that Fine Uploader already supports for traditional uploads: Internet Explorer 7+ (including IE10), Firefox, Safari (OS X), Chrome, iOS6 and Android.

"Since your server no longer has to directly handle uploaded files, this makes it easier to scale your web application," said Libby Maurer, Fine Uploader project manager. "S3 deals with large and small workloads quite well. So, let Amazon worry about this!"

All features offered in the "traditional" file uploader are also offered by Fine Uploader v3.8, including:

  • Chunking
  • Auto-resume
  • Auto & manual retry
  • Editing filenames before the upload
  • Auto and manual upload mode
  • Deleting uploaded files (via your local server)
  • Optional user interface
  • Drag & drop
  • Upload via paste
  • Upload images via mobile devices

Fine Uploader, originally known as file-uploader or valums/file-uploader, was created by Andrew Valums in 2010 and hosted on GitHub. In August 2012, Andrew handed the project over to Ray Nicholus, who has maintained and evolved the library since version 2.0, when it was renamed Fine Uploader. In March 2013, Widen Enterprises took over the development and management of Fine Uploader with Ray Nicholus continuing as lead developer.
