Finisar Broadens Test & Measurement Product Line With Introduction of Dynamic Gain Equalizer for System Test Applications

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - March 1, 2011) - Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR) today introduced the WaveShaper 120 Gain Equalizer, a programmable unit designed for system test applications such as terrestrial or submarine test beds. This is the latest member of the expanding WaveShaper family of Programmable Optical Processors. This product will be demonstrated at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) in Los Angeles, March 8-10, in Finisar's booth #1701.

The new WaveShaper 120 Gain Equalizer modifies optical spectra in the C-band of long-haul and ultra-long-haul transmission system test beds. It allows stressing of such systems by setting arbitrary attenuation shapes with high spectral resolution and slopes as steep as 10dB/nm as well as optimizing system performance by equalizing the spectrum. It is fully compliant with the requirements of Flexgrid™ transmission as it is gridless in operation and can be controlled with a frequency resolution of 1GHz.

The WaveShaper Gain Equalizer is available as a bench top unit (120S) or for integration as an OEM unit (120M) and can be fully controlled using the graphical user interface of the WaveManager Application Suite. An Applications Programmers Interface (API) is provided for easy integration in automated test systems. The unit allows several updates per second and therefore minimizes test time.

Demonstrations will also be held at OFC of other members of the WaveShaper family, including the WaveShaper 100S Channel Selector, WaveShaper 4000S Multiport Optical Processor and the WaveManager Application Suite.
