The increased frequency range of the WaveShaper 1000S/X and 4000S/X provides benefits to multiple applications. In metrology, broader bandwidth ultrafast pulses can now be accurately manipulated, enabling many new applications in the area of super-continuum generation and optical atomic clocks. In communications, system testing of new reconfigurable network structures covering the extended C-band and even the C+L-band is enabled.
The newly released WaveManager Application Suite 2.0 helps to greatly reduce test cost in system testing with its novel emulation algorithm for creating DWDM spectra. Finisar achieves this by slicing and shaping a broadband spectrum and thus eliminating banks of modulated laser sources that have been used before. Finisar's approach even allows creating individual spectral shapes for the channels as if they were modulated with different data formats.
The WaveManager Application Suite 2.0 supports all current and previous generations of the WaveShaper and will be available shortly for download from the Finisar website.
"We are excited to introduce the new WaveShaper 1000S/X and 4000S/X at ECOC," said Dr. Simon Poole, Director of New Business Ventures, Finisar Australia. "These units have been developed in partnership with our customers who have been demanding the ability to use the unique spectral shaping and phase control capability of the WaveShaper across the entire C+L wavelength range for communications as well as pulsed laser applications."
The WaveShaper family will be demonstrated at the 2011 European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) in Geneva, Switzerland, September 19-21, in Finisar's booth #1118.
