Fire Fighters Memorial Vandalized

OFL Shocked by this Callous Act

Attention: Assignment Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(Marketwire - May 13, 2008) - "Defacing the Queen's Park Memorial to honour fire fighters killed in the line of duty is a shameful, ignorant and cowardly act," said Ontario Federation of Labour president Wayne Samuelson.

"There are 420 names on this memorial, 420 lives lost and 420 families grieving. To show this lack of respect for workers killed on the job is truly a callous act.

"In every corner of Ontario there are memorials to honour workers killed on the job and the Ontario Federation of Labour and its 700,000 members are shocked and deeply offended by this utter disregard for workers who have paid the ultimate price at work - paid with their lives.

"I can say with certainty today that all workers in this province are in solidarity with the Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association and decry this despicable vandalism," Samuelson said.
