Firefighter Ewan Williamson's Family Ask to be Left to Grieve in Peace

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND--(Marketwire - July 27, 2009) - A number of stories have appeared since Firefighter Ewan Williamson's death in the line of duty at Dalry Road, Edinburgh.

The Fire Brigades Union, on behalf of the Williamson Family urges the Press & Media to leave the family in peace.

Andy Fulton, Brigade Secretary for Lothian and Borders Fire Brigades Union said "I have spoken to Ewan's family who are deeply upset at being approached by reporters asking for the family's reaction to the different news angles arising from the incident.

"They have asked me to make it clear they do not want to be approached by any reporters about any aspect of Ewan's death. This is an ordinary family caught up in terrible events and they want to be able to grieve in peace. They have no further comments to make and wish to be left alone.

"If that changes they will make that clear publicly and to all media outlets. I would ask the media to respect those wishes."

The Fire Brigades Union is not suggesting that any media organisation does not report or investigate stories of legitimate interest, however graciously requests to acknowledge and adhere to the wishes of Ewan Williamson's family.
