First Annual PGConf Silicon Valley PostgreSQL Conference Draws Large, Lively Crowd

More Than 260 Attendees Packed Keynotes, Tutorials, Breakout Sessions and an Interactive PostgreSQL Community Reception; Citus Data Announces Plan to Open Source CitusDB 5.0 in First Quarter of 2016

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 10, 2015) - Citus Data, creators of solutions that scale out PostgreSQL for real-time big data, today discussed the success of the first annual PGConf Silicon Valley conference held November 17-18, 2015, at the South San Francisco Conference Center. Organized by Citus Data in cooperation with the San Francisco PostgreSQL Users Group, the conference was attended by more than 260 Postgres practitioners from four continents and more than 10 countries. During the event, Citus Data announced its plan to open source CitusDB 5.0 during the first quarter of 2016, a plan that was met with a broad round of applause from the enthusiastic audience.

"I'm extraordinarily pleased by the attendance at this first-of-its-kind conference, as well as by the obvious engagement and enthusiasm on display throughout the event," said Terry Erisman, VP of Marketing for Citus Data. "The conference has validated our perception of the unique vibrancy of the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Postgres communities, along with the growing global interest in Postgres. This is just the start of a major renaissance for this unique and vital technology, and we are committed to growing PGConf Silicon Valley in the years ahead."

Conference Highlights

  • Standing-room-only crowds attended the conference's keynote sessions, including talks by Citus Data CEO and Co-founder Umur Cubukcu on PostgreSQL scalability, Confluent CEO Jay Kreps on Apache Kafka, and Pivotal Software's Greenplum Database Product Manager Ivan Novick on PostgreSQL License, Vendor Eco-systems, Cloud Providers, and Future of RDBMS.
  • PGConf Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area PostgreSQL Meetup Group co-promoted a very well attended and interactive PostgreSQL community reception at the Brass Elephant Lounge and Sports Bar.
  • The conference breakout sessions featured a great lineup of speakers from TripAdvisor, Urban Airship, Square, Heap, AWS, Rackspace, 2nd Quadrant, and Pivotal, with many popular talks generating standing-room-only crowds.
  • As another sign of the significant interest in the conference, prior to the event, the Conference Committee, chaired by Josh Berkus, CEO of PostgreSQL Experts, sorted through nearly three times as many submissions as available breakout session slots. Despite adding an additional breakout session track, the Committee still had to turn away many strong proposed talks.
  • More than 130 attendees participated in the conference tutorials.
  • Video recordings of the sessions and many speaker slide decks are posted on the conference website for viewing.
