First Ever Fitness Equipment With Integrated Android Browser Tablet Console Shown at Google I/O 2011

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - May 17, 2011) - Smart fitness equipment, with an integrated tablet console and built-in Android browser, was shown at the annual Google I/O developers conference in San Francisco May 10-11, 2011. The smart fitness console is now available on new exercise equipment from the NordicTrack, ProForm and FreeMotion Fitness brands.

The new treadmills and ellipticals with Android tablet consoles let exercisers check email, watch YouTube and web-based TV, play games, shop online, enjoy social media time and enjoy other web-based activities in a healthier way... because they can do it while working out.

The new NordicTrack, ProForm and FreeMotion Fitness products feature iFit Live powered by Google Maps, a technology that leverages Google Maps API Premier to offer maps and data for fitness equipment. Google Maps powers the visuals on the Android tablet console with Map, Satellite, Hybrid, Earth Views, and Street View, where available.

iFit Live technology is so named because the built-in wi-fi connection makes these products true internet appliances. Consumers create a running route using Google Maps at That route becomes a workout when it's downloaded to one of the new fitness products. iFit Live, with its live internet connection, changes the workout experience completely, because users watch their real-time progress on the Google Maps display with a dynamic "runner" marker that moves from start to finish along each route.

The live internet connection also enables iFit to cleverly use elevation data imbedded in Google Maps, automatically adjusting incline and decline to mimic the route's natural topography.

At the conclusion of each workout, workout results are automatically uploaded to a personal profile page at Here, you can also manage your diet and exercise information, and see a complete overview of how close you are to reaching your fitness goals.

Another new iFit Live feature to be shown at Google I/O is iFit Live Compete, virtual races against other iFit Live™ users. At the iFit website, runners select a race to join, from famous marathons to scenic 5K. Once a runner presses start on their treadmill, iFit Live™ displays the race map and different colored Runner Markers to represent the runner's time, the fastest time and the average time. After the finish line, each runner can compare his ranking and results to other iFit Live™ competitors.

ICON Health & Fitness, the parent company of NordicTrack, ProForm and FreeMotion Fitness, holds 19 patents for its iFit technology and sought out Google Maps to enhance the visual experience for its fitness consumers.

Products currently available with the Android-based tablet console are NordicTrack Elite 9500 Pro -- received the highest score for treadmills from the most prestigious magazine for consumer product reviews and is $1999 at, the ProForm TrailRunner 4.0 -- $1699 at, the ProForm Performance 1450 -- $1499 at Sports Authority and the FreeMotion 770 -- $1899 at Sports Authority.
