First-Ever Recording Arts Day on Capitol Hill Emphasizes Music Community's Response to Hurricane Katrina

The Recording Academy® and MusiCares® to Announce $1 Million in Aid to Music People Affected by Hurricane

WASHINGTON, DC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 6, 2005 --


WHO:        The Recording Arts and Sciences Congressional Caucus (RASCC)
            and The Recording Academy® will bring together more than
            100 music professionals and artists including three-time
            GRAMMY® winner Gloria Estefan, songwriter Desmond Child
            ("Livin' La Vida Loca"), singer Patti Austin, producer and
            three-time GRAMMY winner Jimmy Jam, saxophonist Dave Koz,
            and jazz guitarist and GRAMMY winner Earl Klugh, among many
            others.

WHAT:       Artists will participate in the first-ever Recording Arts Day
            on Capitol Hill to inform policy makers of the important role
            the recording arts play to the nation, especially during
            times of need. The Recording Academy and MusiCares will
            announce a $1 million contribution to aid music people
            affected by Hurricane Katrina. The day will include:

            --  The Power of Music: Gloria Estefan and Recording Academy
                President Neil Portnow will discuss music's power to
                comfort and heal. Estefan will mentor young musicians,
                culminating in a unique musical performance with members
                of Congress and other guest artists;
            --  GRAMMYs on the Hill: The Recording Academy's fifth annual
                advocacy event that honors outstanding legislators who
                work to improve the environment for music makers, and
                artists who use the power of music to improve all our
                lives. This year's award recipients are: Estefan, Sen.
                Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).
                Jon Secada will present Estefan with her award and
                perform. Crystal Gayle with songwriter Richard Leigh also
                will perform. Members of the Louisiana and Mississippi
                Congressional Delegation will be present to join Portnow
                in announcing $1 million in aid.
