First Metals Prepares Fabie Site

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 6, 2006) - First Metals Inc. (TSX:FMA) is pleased to announce that construction at the Fabie Bay site continues to advance at a rapid pace. In addition to the office/dry complex being assembled on site, the roads leading to and at the site have been upgraded and widened, a bridge is being replaced to increase the load capacity to 60 tons, a communications tower is being erected and the top of the ventilation raise has been rehabilitated.

The recent receipt of the environmental permits has allowed for the construction of the water treatment plant and the polishing pond to proceed. The clay core of the 1 million gallon capacity polishing pond parameter dams has been completed. This pond will serve to settle and eliminate any solids, including heavy metals, adjust the pH levels, as well as monitor and ensure Certificate of Approval quality of any water being discharged. Weather conditions have been ideal for the installation of the clay core and the sand and gravel walls.

Extensive water testing by Golder and Associates has indicated that the water in the top 2/3 of the open pit can be discharged without treatment, allowing for pit dewatering to start next week. The balance of the open pit water will be pumped into the polishing pond, along with the water in the ramp and underground workings. It is expected that the dewatering of the open pit will be completed prior to year end and that the underground workings will be accessible, via the main production ramp, early in the new year.

"This is a very exciting time, with a lot of activity, "commented C.O.O. Charles Gryba. "The site is starting to look like a mine and we are now within weeks of being able to go underground and see the actual workings for the first time in 30 years."
