First Metals Reports Fabie Pit Ready for Production

Corporate Update

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - April 4, 2007) - First Metals Inc. (TSX:FMA): Production drilling has been completed on the open pit portion of the Fabie Bay copper mine. A total of 350 vertical holes have been drilled on a 3 meter by 3 meter pattern to a depth of 10 meters. In 1978, Noranda had stripped the ore body, installed a production ramp and mined one bench. The second bench is now entirely drilled off. The 4.5 inch diameter holes were drilled using the Company's newly commissioned Cubex ITH drill.

Assay results on 144 holes have been received. The average grade is 2.85% copper at a 1.5% copper cut-off grade. Pit production grade drilling to date therefore closely matches the 2.77% copper grade reported in the NI 43-101 Micon Report, dated April 2006. Each of the production holes had 5 samples taken at 2 meter intervals.

The balance of the assays is expected within the next 10 days, which should then allow a Gencom calculation of both tonnage and grade. All samples are being assayed for gold, silver, zinc, as well as copper. The specific gravity of each sample is also measured to more accurately calculate the tonnage factor. Assaying is being done by Techni Lab of Rouyn Noranda.

The Fabie pit is ready to load and blast. The pit ramp is in place and a sinking cut has been designed into the pit plan. A 6m3 loader is on site and the jaw crusher is being installed and will be operational this month. Dewatering of the underground workings has reached the 90 meter level, allowing for underground production to start on several levels. The ground conditions are good. Dewatering will be completed in April. All requisite permits leading up to the final production permit are in place, with the latter expected before completion of the bulk sample.

Final deliveries of the key mining equipment are scheduled for this month. A 5000KVA transformer and switchgear are on site and the main substation and grounding are in progress. Quebec Hydro is expected to complete installation of the power lines and poles, including extension to the Magusi site by month's end. In conjunction with this work, the road from Fabie to Magusi has been completed, including a 2.5 meter culvert in the Fabie Creek.

Mine staff and miner hiring is in progress, designed to match mill scheduling. With respect to the latter, mill refurbishment inspections have been completed by an independent engineering firm and the refurbishment plan is scheduled for completion this week. The final sign-off on the refurbishment plan is scheduled for mid April and should allow for the custom milling and smelting agreement to be finalized.

A 20,000 meter diamond drill contract, using 2 drills, has been let to drill the Magusi deposit for a certificate of approval to take a 50,000 tonne bulk sample, metallurgical mine planning and exploration purposes. As part of this program, a number of new, recently identified, IP anomalies, south of both Fabie and Magusi and on the wholly owned Duprat Property, will be drill tested.

"The continued progress is gratifying. It is exactly 12 months since my initial visit to the Fabie site", stated Charles Gryba, COO. "Within 1 year, the Fabie mine has been permitted, staffed up and a 33 km power line built, and the open pit is ready for production, which is scheduled to start as soon as the Horne Mill refurbishment is completed over the next few months."

Mr. Gryba, P.Eng. has reviewed and approved the technical content of this release in his capacity as a Qualified Person under NI 43-101.
