First Nickel Assumes Mining Operations at Lockerby Mine, Sudbury

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 28, 2005) - First Nickel Inc. (TSX:FNI) today announced that the mining contract made between F.A. MacIntyre Limited and First Nickel for the Lockerby Mine has ended. The 57 people currently working at the Mine for F.A. MacIntyre will become employees of First Nickel effective October 1, 2005. Development work and other mining activities will continue without disruption to enable the start of ore production in early October. Three pieces of F.A. MacIntyre equipment will continue to be leased by First Nickel which will contribute to the seamless transition.

At July 31, 2005 First Nickel had working capital of approximately $13,500,000 and 53,730,598 common shares issued and outstanding.
