First Ontario Roadside Memorial Sign to Be Unveiled Thursday 1 p.m.

MADD Canada hosts ceremony to unveil Ontario's first roadside memorial sign for victims of impaired driving -- Thursday afternoon on Hwy 48 near Newmarket

Attention: News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor, Transportation Editor OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2007) - Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada) will be hosting a special ceremony to mark the occasion of unveiling Ontario's first roadside memorial sign for victims of impaired driving. The memorial sign to be unveiled marks the site of the tragic June 2006 crash that took the lives of Joseph Sweers, age 45, and Rupbert Edwards, 37.

At the event, members of both the Sweers and Edwards families, police, and community leaders will join with MADD Canada's National President and volunteers from the MADD York Region Chapter.

WHAT: The Memorial Sign Ceremony
WHEN: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 13, 2007
WHERE: the Mount Albert IGA, 19263 Highway 48 -- in Mount Albert
(5 minutes north of the crash / sign site)

WHAT: The Roadside Memorial Sign Unveiling
WHEN: Immediately following 1:00 p.m. ceremony (est. before 2 p.m.)
WHERE: Highway 48 (north of the Davis Drive intersection / east of Newmarket)

A short, official ceremony will be held in Mount Albert prior to the actual roadside unveiling event. At this ceremony, family members, police, MPP Julia Munro, and MADD Canada's National President will all make remarks.

MEDIA: Participants will be available for photos and one-on-one interviews in the IGA parking lot, prior to and at the ceremony. There will be a number of photo opportunities with the unveiling and in front of the memorial sign at roadside. Because of safety concerns, post-event interviews and photo sessions will need to be conducted somewhere other than at roadside.
