First Recipients of Veterans Ombudsman's Commendation Award Announced

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 15, 2010) - In recognition of their personal efforts in challenging the status quo, the following four individuals have been chosen to be among the first recipients of the Veterans Ombudsman's Commendation Award: Dennis Manuge, Peter Stoffer, John Labelle, and Harold Leduc.

Veterans Ombudsman Col. (ret.) Patrick B. Stogran, in collaboration with the Veterans Ombudsman's Advisory Committee, has established the Veterans Ombudsman's Commendation Award to acknowledge individuals and groups who work courageously and tirelessly to identify and advance issues on behalf of Veterans and their families.

"I congratulate the four recipients for their untiring efforts over many years to ensure that Canadian Veterans and their families are treated with the respect that they deserve", said Col. Stogran. "This is but a small recognition for the many dedicated hours that these outstanding individuals have devoted to the Veterans' cause."

The Award is intended for those who may otherwise go unrecognized for their contribution towards lasting change for the Veterans Community. It is an expression of the Veterans Ombudsman's appreciation of their hard work and selflessness on behalf of Veterans, and in no way reflects an endorsement of the particular issue or cause nor partisanship or direct support to any individual or organization that receives the Award.

An Award Ceremony will take place October 20th, 2010, at the Minto Suites Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario, to present the recipients with the Award.
