FIRST Robotics Media Advisory: Students Compete in "Lunacy" at Canada's Largest High School Robotics Competition

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 24, 2009) - The FIRST Robotics Greater Toronto Regional competition is the largest robotics competition in Canada. This weekend on March 27th and 28th , more than 1,800 students from 58 high schools across Canada and the United States will compete for awards and a spot in the 2009 World Championship event, to be held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on April 17th-18th.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international non-profit organization designed to inspire students to pursue studies and careers in science, engineering, computers and technology. Students have six weeks to design and build a 130 pound robot using a common set of parts in order to compete in a game. Students develop skills in problem solving, leadership and teamwork as well as design, manufacturing, programming and testing. FIRST's programs reach 195,000 students in 42 countries. FIRST Robotics Canada was started in 2002 and reaches over 6,500 Canadian students.
