First Venture Sake Yeasts Reduce Ethyl Carbamate Levels

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 14, 2006) - First Venture Technologies Corp. (TSX VENTURE:FEB) reports that it has received laboratory confirmation that its functionally improved sake yeasts are effective in reducing ethyl carbamate levels.

Dr. Hennie van Vuuren, Director of the Wine Research Centre at The University of British Columbia has reported that recent experiments have shown that these functionally improved self-cloning sake yeasts produced 41% less ethyl carbamate than that produced using the regular sake yeasts in simulated laboratory fermentations.

Sake has been, in many cases, reported to contain some of the highest levels of ethyl carbamate for alcoholic beverages. The regulation and monitoring of urethane (ethyl carbamate) in alcoholic beverages in Japan is managed by that country's National Tax Agency ("NTA") and its National Research Institute of Brewing ("NRIB"). In 2004, the NRIB provided First Venture with samples of the most widely used sake yeast strains for the evaluation and development of ethyl carbamate minimizing attributes at the Wine Research Centre. First Venture is now working with representatives of Japan's NTA to initiate pre-market approvals, including sake fermentation trials of these ethyl carbamate minimizing yeasts with the NRIB.
