Fish & Richardson Named Patent Contentious Law Firm of the Year in the U.S. by Managing Intellectual Property

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Mar 20, 2015) -  Fish & Richardson has been named the "Patent Contentious Law Firm of the Year" in the U.S. by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) for its "outstanding" patent litigation work. Fish was also recognized as the regional "Patent Contentious Law Firm Northeast," and principal Juanita Brooks was named the "Outstanding IP Litigator" for California. The awards were presented at the 8th annual Managing IP North America awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., and recognized outstanding work by law firms, in-house teams, and individual attorneys.

In announcing the awards, MIP noted Fish's appellate win for client Fresenius, which took 10 years, two trials, three Federal Circuit appeals, and a USPTO reexamination before Fresenius was freed from a $150 million liability. This was a precedential case in which the Federal Circuit made clear that post-grant review can directly impact the outcome of patent litigation. In May 2014, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the Federal Circuit's ruling, which has led to broad changes in the manner that patentees and defendants strategize around patent litigation. Juanita Brooks was lead counsel on the case.

"It is a great honor to be recognized by MIP as the best IP litigation firm in the country," said Ann Cathcart Chaplin, Litigation Practice Group Leader at Fish & Richardson. "We create highly efficient and effective teams for clients that utilize our deep bench of seasoned litigators and technically trained lawyers. Clients turn to us for their highest stakes IP litigation because we have exactly the right people for every case, jurisdiction, technology, and industry. We excel at providing strategic counseling and litigation services that protect and maximize the value of our clients' intellectual property."

Founded in 1990, MIP is an international magazine for in-house IP counsel and a leading source of news and analysis on all IP developments worldwide. MIP's North America Awards are the result of more than six months of analysis by its team of researchers, who conduct hundreds of interviews with IP practitioners and IP owners in North America.

Fish & Richardson is a global patent, intellectual property (IP) litigation, and commercial litigation law firm with more than 400 attorneys and technology specialists across the U.S. and Europe. Fish has been named the #1 patent litigation firm in the U.S. for 11 consecutive years. Fish has been winning cases worth billions in controversy -- often by making new law -- for the most innovative clients and influential industry leaders since 1878. For more information, visit www.fr.com.
