Fish & Richardson Named Top PTAB Law Firm for 2015 by Managing Intellectual Property Magazine

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Mar 17, 2016) - Fish & Richardson was again ranked the #1 law firm for petitioners at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) magazine. In 2015, Fish filed 103 petitions for petitioners, which far exceeded other law firms. Fish was also among the top three most active law firms overall at the PTAB for 2015 with 153 petitions.

Karl Renner, principal and co-chair of Fish's Post-Grant Practice Group, was the second most active attorney at the PTAB for petitioners with 42 petitions. Additionally, for patent owners, five Fish attorneys were named among the top 20 attorneys at the PTAB representing patent owners, including principals Ruffin Cordell, Kevin Greene, Linda Kordziel, and Timothy Riffe, and associate Brian Livedalen.

This is the second year that MIP has ranked the leading PTAB law firms as part of its annual international IP survey. The magazine noted that 2015 was another record year for filings at the PTAB with 1,797 petitions filed including 92% that were inter partes review (IPR) petitions.

"The PTAB continues to be a go-to venue for both petitioners and patent owners," said Renner. "Fish brings an unbeatable combination of technical know-how, patent prosecution skills, and litigation savvy to our Post-Grant practice. Our post-grant teams include both experienced patent practitioners and seasoned litigators who work together to utilize post-grant proceedings as a strategic tool alongside patent litigation to help clients protect their valuable intellectual property."

Fish offers complete patent prosecution and strategic counseling services, including worldwide patent portfolio management, due diligence, freedom-to-operate investigations, licensing, and post-grant proceedings. With 234 patent attorneys and agents, and 88 PhDs across numerous technical areas, Fish works with companies -- ranging from Fortune 500 corporations to newly formed startups -- across almost every identifiable industry.

Founded in 1990, MIP is an international magazine for in-house IP counsel and a leading source of news and analysis on all IP developments worldwide. MIP used Docket Navigator to conduct an analysis of PTAB petitions filed in 2015 to reveal the most-active companies and people at the PTAB.
