Fish & Richardson Names Litigator Ann Cathcart Chaplin Leader of Largest Practice Group


MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - March 31, 2011) - Fish & Richardson today announced that Ann Cathcart Chaplin, a member of the firm's Management Committee and the managing principal of the firm's Twin Cities office, has been named Litigation Practice Group Leader. In her new role, Cathcart Chaplin will be responsible for business and marketing strategies for the firm's premier patent litigation and commercial litigation practices, which includes nearly 200 lawyers in 11 offices worldwide. Cathcart Chaplin will also maintain her IP litigation practice.

Katherine Kelly Lutton, a principal in Fish's Silicon Valley office, served as Litigation Practice Group Leader for the past four years and is transitioning out of firm management to return full time to her practice, where she leads and tries high-profile, high-stakes, high-tech patent litigation.

Cathcart Chaplin, 37, joined Fish in 2001, was named a principal in 2005, and assumed the role of recruiting principal for the Twin Cities office in 2006. When she was named Twin Cities managing principal in 2010, she became the first woman to hold an office managing principal position in Fish's 132-year history. She has also served as a co-group leader of the litigation group in the Twin Cities for the past three years, and spent three years as head of associate training in the Twin Cities. In January 2011, Cathcart Chaplin was named to The American Lawyer magazine list of "45 Under 45 Superstar Women in Law."

Cathcart Chaplin received her J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1998. She received her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota in 1995. She is admitted to the bar in Minnesota, the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
