Fisheries and Oceans Canada Transfers Ownership of Port Credit Harbour Facility to Canada Lands Company

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 25, 2011) - The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), today announced the sale of the Small Craft Harbour site at Port Credit, in the City of Mississauga, Ontario to Canada Lands Company (CLC) Limited. The transaction involves approximately 27.6 hectares of land and water lot, commonly known as the Port Credit Harbour Marina.

"The Government of Canada and Canada Lands Company both understand the value and importance of this facility to the local community. This announcement today is the last step in a long process of close cooperation between DFO and CLC. DFO is delighted to entrust this property to CLC," said Minister Shea.

"We are pleased to be able to announce that the acquisition of this property is complete," said Mark Laroche, President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Lands Company. "We look forward to engaging with the municipality, community and other stakeholders, regarding the future of the property. The Village of Port Credit is unique in character and this should be considered in determining the future of this site."

"There are no immediate plans for any changes that would affect any of the current tenants at the 1 Port Street site; nor are there any immediate plans for any changes that would affect the normal operations of the marina," Laroche added.

DFO and its Special Operating Agency, the Canadian Coast Guard, deliver programs and services that support sustainable use and development of Canada's waterways and aquatic resources.

CLC is an arm's length, self-financing Crown corporation, which optimizes the financial and community value from strategic properties no longer required for program purposes by the Government of Canada. It purchases properties at fair market value, then retains and manages, or improves and sells them, to produce the best possible benefit for both local communities and the company's sole shareholder, the Government of Canada.
