Fitness First Launches Asthma UK Fundraising With Balloons Over Dorset

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Nov. 23, 2010) - Fitness First marked its new fundraising partnership with Asthma UK (Friday November 19) by releasing 100 green helium filled balloons from Fitness First's support centre in Poole.

Members of staff from the support centre in Poole, each made a donation to be able to release a balloon, kick starting the gym chain's 12 month fundraising calendar. Along with other fundraising activities over the past few weeks, Fitness First has already managed to raise over £3000 for Asthma UK, which takes it closer to its target of £100,000 to be raised by October 2011.

The balloons floated gracefully off into the surprisingly sunny skies of Dorset, each attached to a tag containing a two day guest membership for those who find the balloons. And there is an extra bonus for the balloon which travels the furthest - whoever finds this will win a Bodyfirst package with four weeks membership and three personal training sessions. Anyone lucky enough to find one just needs to email the address printed on the tag attached to the balloon for their chance to win.

Martin Seibold, global marketing director and UK central operations manager at Fitness First said: "We hope to maximise the partnership to educate people about the benefits of exercise and raise vital funds to support Asthma UK's work to ease the effect asthma has on people."

Iain Cassidy, corporate trusts and statutory team manager at Asthma UK added: "One in five households is affected by asthma so it's a very common condition. Together with Fitness First we're hoping to transform the lives of people with asthma, many of whom think they can't exercise because of their condition. In fact with the right treatment, regular exercise can help improve lung function and improve overall well-being."

Funds raised by Fitness First over the next 12 months, will go towards services like specialist holidays for children with asthma, the Asthma UK Adviceline run by asthma nurse specialists and asthma training for teachers.
