Five K-12 Schools Turn to Desire2Learn Technology to Serve as the Foundation of Their Learning Environments

Leading School Districts Implement the D2L Platform to Drive Better Decisions and Student Outcomes and Improve Alignment of Core Standards to Curriculum

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 15, 2014) - Highlighting the growing demand for its solutions in the K-12 market, Desire2Learn (D2L), the EdTech company that created the world's first truly integrated learning platform (ILP), today announced five new K-12 customers. Tasked with creating learning environments that help teachers personalize the learning experience for every student to improve outcomes, more and more K-12 schools are implementing the Desire2Learn ILP as the foundation of their learning environments.

The D2L platform enables K-12 schools to embrace emerging technologies and deliver new learning experiences that transform the textbook, paper and pencil practices of the past into a student-centric approach that incorporate social, interactive, and personalized opportunities to learn. D2L provides teachers with the tools to better assess student performance, driving better curriculum decisions and student outcomes.

The traditional approach to the K-12 education market is rapidly shifting. Educators are faced with challenging needs of a wide range of students while at the same time having to meet the demands of increasing scores on standardized tests. Technology has emerged as the pathway to empower teachers to teach each student on a one-to-one basis, achieving the long standing goal of individual student attention," said John Baker, President and CEO, D2L. "Personalization also makes it much easier for educators to measure and map outcome achievement to specific government standards - ensuring each student can stay on track. We're proud to work with each of these schools to provide the students, teachers and districts with a personalized learning environment that improves education for all."

New D2L customers in the K-12 market include:

  • Bellevue School District is preparing for deployment of the D2L ILP across the district as their platform for blended learning and curriculum development and delivery in 2014-15.
  • Oxnard Union High School District is using the D2L platform across the high school district for blended learning purposes and to engage students and teachers.
  • WHRO, acting on behalf of a regional consortium of seventeen public school divisions in eastern Virginia, is utilizing D2L technology for the administration, documentation, tracking, and reporting of training programs, virtual and blended classrooms, and online events.
  • Upper Canada District School Board's Service Excellence department is using D2L's platform to deliver a Service Excellence course to district staff.
  • West Virginia Department of Education has deployed the D2L platform across the state as a fully-integrated solution at West Virginia Virtual School. The solution is available to all students and districts in West Virginia.

Schools and districts in the K-12 market continue to turn to D2L to provide the technology needed to support blended learning initiatives and meet student and educator needs. For more information on D2L's capabilities in the K-12 market, visit http://www.desire2learn.com/solutions/k-12/.
