Five Universities Join Growing List of Apogee Customers Embracing Outsourced Residential Networking (ResNet)

Fortifies Apogee's Market Leader Position in Higher Education ResNet

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - Nov 6, 2013) - Apogee, the nation's largest provider of managed residential network (ResNet) services to higher education, today announced that it has been selected to manage the growing residential network (ResNet) demands of Midwestern State University, Huntington University, Navarro College, Slippery Rock University, and the University of Nebraska Omaha. Apogee has partnered with these institutions to provide some or all of the following services -- wired and wireless internet connectivity, cable television, and Voice over IP (VoiP) -- to their on-campus residence halls.

These five universities have brought on board ResNet provider Apogee at a time when student connectivity demand has risen dramatically. Every year, students bring more and more bandwidth-devouring mobile devices to school. According to OnlineColleges.net, 41 percent of college students have three or more devices connected to the internet at any given time. Devices such as tablets, computers, laptops, smartphones, wireless printers, iPods, gaming systems, e-readers and smart TVs are now the new normal back-to-school tools.

"Across the country, universities are grappling with rising student expectations for fast, wireless and unlimited internet connectivity while juggling limited IT budgets," said Dr. Michael Mills, Director of Housing and Dining Services, Midwestern State University. "We are very pleased to have found a trusted and proven ResNet partner in Apogee. Within three months, MWSU was able to promptly set up our wireless network to meet current student demands. We are now fully set up to smoothly scale our network as our students' needs evolve."

Apogee will provide ResNet services to the following universities:

  • Midwestern State University: This Wichita Falls, Texas-based public liberal arts college enrolls approximately 5,900 students each quarter and provides student housing at three residences halls -- Killingsworth Hall, McCullough-Trigg and Pierce Hall. With Apogee, Midwestern State now provides both wireless and wired internet services and 24/7 technical support.

  • Huntington University: Located on 170 acres in Huntington, Indiana, this private four-year liberal arts university enrolls more than 1,200 students annually and has five residence halls. Apogee gives Huntington University the ability to provide students with both wireless and wired internet services, in-room Voice over IP services and 24/7 technical support.

  • Navarro College: This Texas-based two-year community college consists of a main campus located in Corsicana, with branches in Mexia, Midlothian and Waxahacie, and enrolls more than 10,000 students college-wide. With Apogee, Navarro College now provides both wireless and wired internet services, in-room Voice over IP services, and 24/7 technical support to students living in apartment-style residence halls on the Corsicana, TX campus.

  • Slippery Rock University:  With more than 8,000 students, this four-year liberal arts college is located on 660 acres in the rural town of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. With Apogee, Slippery Rock is now providing wireless and wired internet services, in-room Voice over IP series, cable television and 24/7 technical support to students living on campus in the University's suite-style residence halls.

  • The University of Nebraska: This Omaha, Nebraska-based four-year college enrolls nearly 15,000 students and offers campus housing in 17 residential halls and two apartment-style housing facilities. With Apogee, the University of Nebraska now provides all of its residences both wired and wireless internet services and 24/7 technical support.

"We applaud our university partners who understand that wireless networking on college campuses is a vital investment in student success," said Chuck Brady, CEO of Apogee. "Higher education institutions that plan and prepare for the growing demands of campus network needs and speeds will see continued increases in enrollment, student satisfaction and educational excellence."
