Flint Mayor Karen Weaver to Testify at Congressional Hearing on Flint Water Crisis

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - February 09, 2016) - On the heels of a U.S. Conference of Mayors fact-finding mission to the city of Flint (MI), Mayor Karen Weaver will testify tomorrow before the Democratic Steering & Policy Committee at a hearing titled "The Flint Water Crisis: Lessons for Protecting America's Children."

At this hearing, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats will also hear testimony on this ongoing emergency from public health experts and local officials.

At the Conference's Winter Meeting last month, mayors stressed their urban agenda -- The 2016 Mayors' Compact for a Better America: A Call to Action -- that calls on the Presidential candidates and Congress to INVEST in and PROTECT America's cities and metro areas. Developing healthy, safe, affordable and modern water and wastewater systems is one of the key items on the Mayors' agenda.

Immediately following the hearing, Mayor Weaver, along with USCM CEO & Executive Director Tom Cochran and former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin who were designated by USCM President Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to lead the Conference's fact-finding mission in Flint last week, will be available for questions outside of room HVC-210.
