Flipora -- Receives Funding From Major Investors

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - August 26, 2015) - Content discovery engine Flipora has received $1.5 million in seed financing from a host of major tech figures. Backers who are confident in this exciting new concept for connecting Internet users with news and information include Gokul Rajaram, creator of Google AdSense; Munjal Shah, Founder and CEO of Like.com; Anil Dharni, Co-Founder of Funzio; Barney Pell, Founder and CEO of Powerset; and Mayank Bawa, Founder and CEO of Aster Data. The company uses advanced artificial intelligence and proprietary algorithms to anticipate a consumer's interests and preferences to deliver relevant new pages. The product grew to millions of users on the PC, and the company is now translating that success to mobile. The company recently launched mobile apps for both iPhone and Android, and has developed a seamless integration with social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

"We're thrilled to be the beneficiary of this resounding vote of confidence from renowned key players in Silicon Valley," said Flipora co-founder Jonathan Siddharth. "We've been striving to create the most innovative and entertaining approach to access the web and are very proud that last year we became profitable, proving that the company is more than just a good idea -- it's a solid investment."

Forbes.com called the company "one of the best ways that you can find and discover new content that you will like", while Entrepreneur.com raved, "It has become astonishingly accurate at predicting that content I'll click on and want to share... downright addictive." To do this, the application indexes more than 100 million web pages every single day -- 20 times the size of Wikipedia! -- while also building an ongoing understanding of its users' interests based on their ongoing usage of the app. It further calculates other complexities such as the preferences of similar users to automatically recommend fresh and exciting new content. Users can also manually select up to 60 broad content categories for the app to keep an eye on.

Flipora was founded by Jonathan Siddharth and Vijay Krishnan, who were graduate students at Stanford University. Its powerful artificial intelligence has been recognized by a swath of savvy investors who understand its broader potential and sophisticated handling of big data. Based on its recent success the company seems to have the potential to make a cultural impact in the way Google, PayPal, and DropBox have in handling data and in connecting with other people. As evidence of its global reach, Flipora is now available in a total of 12 languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
