Fluent Acquires Boston College Startup Streak Media

College Marketing Agency to Expand Reach of Popular Student News Service to Campuses Around the Country

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Feb 12, 2015) - Fluent, a Boston-based college millennial marketing and insights agency, today announced it has acquired Streak Media, the daily online newsletter of campus-based, local and global news curated and delivered to college students and alumni of selected schools nationwide. By joining forces with and tapping into Fluent's established network of over 1,000 U.S. colleges and universities, Streak Media has the potential to evolve into a major mainstream college news source that appeals to college millennial's interest in instant, and easily-digestible information that's accessible from any digital device. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Just when digital media and social networks were starting to converge, Mike and his group of Boston College classmates found an ingenious way to capitalize on the value of immediate, hyperlocal information for campus audiences," said Fluent CEO Chip Rives. "Bringing this talented group of media entrepreneurs onboard is a natural fit for Fluent; it works perfectly within our mission of helping brands create useful, meaningful and lasting connections with college millennials, and that starts with understanding what the college millennial knows and cares about."

Initially founded in 2011 as "BC Streak" by 2013 Boston College graduate Michael Nardella, with help from his classmate Andrew Flynn and current student William Chamberlain, Streak Media provides a simple and timely way for students to read and share news they care about, saving time sifting through multiple news sources during their busy academic schedules. After attracting a large BC student following, the BC Streak quickly expanded beyond BC to a subscriber base of 20,000 across 12 schools, including NYU, Penn State, TUFTs, Stanford, and more.

Streak Media is now a subsidiary of Fluent with four full-time employees in Boston and a network of up to 50 curators and club members across the country driving content development, editing and publishing. As a result of the acquisition, Streak Media plans to quickly increase its readership to 125,000 subscribers at more than 50 schools in the next semester. In addition, Fluent's brand clients now have the potential to leverage Streak Media for sponsorship and native advertising opportunities.

"By teaming up with the top college marketing agency in the U.S., we're now able to expand our campus digital media offering significantly further and faster than we could have on our own," said Nardella, president of Streak Media. "We see the potential to dramatically change the way students stay informed about and in touch with the world they live in, from their immediate campus setting to major global happenings. And Fluent's portfolio of top brands offers us limitless opportunities to explore new features and benefits tailored to the college market."
