Folds of Honor 2011 Scholarship Application Deadline Approaching

TULSA, OK--(Marketwire - March 1, 2011) - There are more than 200,000 dependents of fallen and wounded military service men and women from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts alone (as of February 2011), and 85 percent do not qualify for federal educational assistance. Folds of Honor, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a mission to empower deserving military families with educational support and opportunities, is filling a gaping hole by providing post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation.

Applications are currently available online for 2011 Folds of Honor Foundation scholarships, and the deadline for submission is March 15, 2011. Through scholarships, Folds of Honor is able to present an ongoing tribute to our brave service members by ensuring that the families of fallen and wounded warriors have hope for the right educational start to life and best future possible. "We encourage everyone who qualifies to apply," said Major Dan Rooney, Folds of Honor founder. "We've seen a huge outpouring of the American spirit over the past year. Because of this generosity, we're able to make an impact in the lives of so many deserving families."

The Foundation's signature fundraiser is the annual Patriot Golf Day, held at thousands of participating golf facilities over Labor Day Weekend. In 2010, Patriot Golf Day and related activities saw record-setting donations of more than $3.3 million to Folds of Honor, which will allow more scholarships to be awarded than ever before. Scholarships are available for both immediate and future use, and can be used to subsidize the costs of tuition, school books, fees, room and board, special tools and equipment necessary for coursework, school-approved tutoring, and any other expense that the school in which the student is enrolled may deem appropriate and unmet.

Since its inception, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 1,600 scholarships. The total number of post-secondary educational scholarship recipients will surpass the 2,400 mark in this year. More information can be found at
