SAN BRUNO, CA and MADRID, SPAIN--(Marketwire - January 27, 2010) - Devicescape and FON
Wireless Ltd. (FON), two WiFi technology innovators, today announced a
partnership to ensure easy WiFi connections everywhere and with any device.
During the first phase of the partnership, Devicescape is giving FON users
free access to all Devicescape Easy WiFi clients. In the next phase
Devicescape will deliver a unique FON branded Easy WiFi application
designed to give Nokia smartphone users hassle-free access to WiFi. The FON
Easy WiFi application will allow its customers to connect automatically to
the more than half a million hotspots in the FON WiFi network without the
inconvenience of entering user IDs and passwords in a browser.
With this agreement, FON and Devicescape join forces to ensure the best
possible WiFi experience for FON users. FON will launch the FON Easy WiFi
application in Germany together with its partner, mobile operator E-Plus.
With more than 20 million subscribers, E-Plus is one of Germany's leading
mobile operators and smartphone distributors. FON remains unique in that it
is the largest WiFi community in the world and it offers its customers free
WiFi access at FON hotspots across the globe.
"WiFi has not only shown it's here to stay in the world of laptop, consumer
device and enterprise connectivity, but it is proving itself vital for
mobile platforms as well," said Martin Varsavsky, FON CEO. "Naturally
people will want to connect seamlessly to WiFi, no matter the device, and
we are happy to partner with Devicescape to develop this together."
"Over the years, Devicescape has stayed focused on its goal to deliver
simple, seamless and secure WiFi connectivity to our customers worldwide,"
said Dave Fraser, Devicescape CEO. "We are excited to work with yet another
trailblazer in the wireless world, and we look forward to helping FON
