FoodLogiQ Announces U.S. National Livestock Traceability System (NLTS) as the Cornerstone of Nationwide Food Safety and Animal Health System

FoodLogiQ's Livestock Traceability System Will Be Based on the Technology in the Canadian Livestock Traceability System Originally Developed by FoodLogiQ Canada and the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency to Meet the Demands for Identification and Traceability for the Canadian Cattle Industry

KANSAS CITY, MO--(Marketwire - August 28, 2007) - Andrew Kennedy, president of FoodLogiQ LLC, announced today at ID INFO EXPO 2007, hosted by the National Institute of Animal Agriculture (NIAA), that the company will be releasing a nation-wide system that will connect the farm to the plate beginning with U.S. beef. The need to protect the nation's food supply from both intentional and unintentional harm is driven home by the recent Foot and Mouth (FMD) outbreak in the U.K., tainted pet food fed to livestock and recalls of ground beef due to E. coli O157:H7. The FoodLogiQ NLTS system will be based on nearly six years of experience developing and hosting the internationally acclaimed Canadian Livestock Traceability System (CLTS) -- which records the farm of origin, date of birth, breed, movement information, slaughter date and location (premises) for millions of Canadian cattle every year.

The Canadian Cattle Identification Agency (CCIA) is an industry initiated and led organization dedicated to the protection of the health and safety of Canadian livestock through livestock traceability. Julie Stitt, the director of the CCIA since its inception in 1998, also serves as an advisor to FoodLogiQ's board. The CCIA program uniquely identifies cattle that leave the farm of birth with numbered RFID ear tags. These tags are used by farms and processors to record animal movements, animal health events and slaughter information. Since full implementation in 2002, CCIA has achieved over 99% compliance and has proven instrumental in BSE investigations, allowing traceback to farm of origin and facilitating traceforward to find and identify other potentially impacted animals.

The FoodLogiQ NLTS will allow all U.S. livestock producers to meet State and Federal record keeping requirements for food safety and animal health. NLTS is a comprehensive system incorporating the three pillars of traceability:

1.  Premises registration for all locations required to track movements;
2.  Livestock identification via RFID ear or lot tags;
3.  Individual or group Animal movement tracking between locations.

The system also includes critical management and marketing features:

1.  Extensive security and profile management system;
2.  Traceback and traceforward for emergency management;
3.  Age verification to meet export requirements;
4.  Animal attributes including species, breed, sex, color;
5.  Zoning, manifest and permitting to manage quarantines;
6.  Tag audit to assure compliance;
7.  Configurable value added events (e.g. vaccinations);
8.  Web services (XML) connection to upload/download tag, movement or
    event data;
9.  Database replication including tag number, birth date and country of
    origin data for meat processing facilities.

NLTS also connects to FoodLogiQ's other modules:

1.  Business Center: Small business management software;
2.  Audit Center: Food safety and defense audit for farms and processing
    plants;
3.  Lab Test Center: Lab test ordering and management;
4.  Employee verification.

For growers, the system will be cost effective, easy to use and easy to connect to existing farm management software. Processors who submit finished product lot code and tag numbers to our system will be able to connect the grower to the grocer using the same interface protocol in use at many Canadian facilities today. These processors will be eligible to use the FoodLogiQ Seal on retail packaging, indicating their commitment to traceability in the food supply.
