Ford City Revitalization Restoring the Neighbourhood

WINDSOR, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 25, 2011) - A shared vision and commitment to revitalizing and restoring the neighbourhood in Ford City united community leaders and residents during an important session this morning.

Hosted at the Gino & Liz Marcus Community Complex, speakers from London's Old East Village Business Improvement Area and the City of London planning division provided insights on the journey to transform the local community into an economic and social hub with enhanced housing resources.

"Moving to Ford City and starting my business here was a decision I'd make again in a heartbeat," said Virginianne, owner of a Studio and Gallery for Artists. "It's been a great experience. The community has a vibrant history and culture. I anticipate strong returns in the future."

During the half-day event, organized through a partnership between the City of Windsor, the Ford City Redevelopment Committee, and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, participants learned how revitalization plans are creating upward momentum and enriching London's Old East Village's social, economic, cultural, housing and employment well-being.

"Business owners and residents will benefit from this kind of partnership along with public and private sector stakeholders," said Louis Gouin, Ford City BIA Coordinator.

Featured speakers included Sarah Merritt, Manager of London's Old East Village BIA and John Fleming, City Planner with the City of London.

Highlights of the session included promising approaches and strategies resulting in positive transformations along London's Dundas street corridor.

"This event is an example of how we can all leverage our expertise and share ideas to build healthy communities," said Peter Friedmann, General Manager, Ontario Region and Managing Director, Securitization, CMHC.
