Ford Taps Into the DIY Revolution at Maker Faire

Ford Engages Engineers, Tinkerers, Scientists, and Artists in New Dialogues Surrounding the American Journey 2.0 and Automakers 2.0

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwire - May 22, 2010) -  Maker Faire, the world's largest do-it-yourself (DIY) festival, today announced that Ford Motor Company has tapped into the DIY revolution by partnering with Maker Faire Bay Area 2010. At Maker Faire, hackers, artists, scientists, and creatives come together to share their ideas, passions, and projects large and small.

Ford is coming to Maker Faire to meet the 600-plus Makers who are scheduled to share their projects and the more than 95,000 attendees from Silicon Valley and beyond. At the festival, Ford will be able to reach these influential Makers and connect with Maker Faire's creative and innovative audience in a down-to-earth, hands-on way.

"Today the car is the platform for innovation, and what better place than Maker Faire to meet the people who innately understand technology and innovation," said K. Venkatesh Prasad, technical leader, Infotronics, Ford Research and Advanced Engineering at Ford Motor Company.

"Ford has been a great partner and collaborator," said Sherry Huss, director of Maker Faire. "Their spirit of openness and creativity surrounding the American Journey 2.0 and Automakers 2.0 has made them ideal to partner with, and Maker Faire is the perfect place to bring Ford's new ideas because our audience appreciates challenges, effort, and change."

"Collaborations like this one with Maker Faire are very valuable to Ford and our development ecosystem in the long term," added Prasad. "If we're going to lead in shaping tomorrow's web-on-wheels, we need to draw from a top talent pool, and we know Maker Faire has such talent. We invite Makers to come interact with the car and help us shape the future."
