Forest View development a boost to local economy

First fractional development in area will create year-round jobs Attention: Assignment Editor, Business/Financial Editor, Lifestyle Editor BANCROFT, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - July 27, 2005) - The Forest View Cottages development marks a first for the Bancroft area and promises to be a boost for the local economy, says owner Craig Walton.

The 10 fractional-cottage development on Baptiste Lake which launch in July has attracted wide-spread attention from buyers and is the first fractional cottage development in the area, Walton said. "Fractional developments are sweeping the Muskoka and the Kawartha regions, but we're the first here in Bancroft."

Fractional cottaging involves several families sharing the use of the same cottage, but enjoying it at separate times throughout the year. Because of the shared use, the cost is much less than buying, or even renting, a cottage. For example, five weeks of yearly vacation time for the next 50 years at Forest View Cottages is $59,900. "And besides getting a luxury cottage, owners don't have the headache of on-going maintenance," Walton added.

Walton said fractional cottaging is good news for the local economy because cottagers will use the facility year-round, instead of just the summer. "Instead of one family using their own cottage for five weeks each year, we'll have 10 families using a Forest View cottage for 50 weeks of each year," he said.

With year-round influx of cottagers, local business is expected to benefit, along with local arts and entertainment organizations, Walton said. The development is expected to create three to six jobs when complete.

Forest View Cottages will house 10 luxury cottages on 12.5 acres of land with 835 feet of private shoreline, a tennis court, indoor pool, hot tub facility, children's playground and putting green. The cottages are being built by 1867 Confederation Log Homes of nearby Bobcaygeon. Occupancy is January 2006.
