Former Campaign Strategist for Stephen Harper Kicks Off Fraser Institute's Lively Fall Cocktail Series at Opus Lounge

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 17, 2007) - Tom Flanagan, former campaign manager for Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada, will provide an insider's perspective on how to win power in Canada in the first event of the three-evening 2007 Fall cocktail series, Behind the Spin: Fraser @ OPUS on Thursday, September 27.

Flanagan's latest book, Harper's Team, will be launched at the event. The book is an insider's recounting of the evolution of the Conservative Party and its recent rise to power in Canada. Harper's Team offers an insider's perspective on how political campaigns are planned, organized, managed, and paid for.

Flanagan's involvement with the federal Conservatives dates back to 1991, when he was hired as director of policy, strategy, and communications for the Reform Party. He served in this capacity until 1993. In 2001, Flanagan resumed his work in federal politics, managing Stephen Harper's campaigns during his bid for leadership of the Canadian Alliance, the Conservative Party of Canada, and eventually the prime minister's office.

Behind the Spin: Fraser @ OPUS offers a unique opportunity to discuss an array of issues with opinion-makers whose leadership on key topics informs the news and public debate. The second event of the three-evening series will feature a debate between Elizabeth Nickson, former columnist with the National Post, and Maestro Bramwell Tovey, music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, on October 23 on the role of government in funding arts and culture. The last event of the series features Rick Baker, founder of Timely Medical Alternatives, discussing Canada's ailing health care system on November 14.

Interested media are invited to attend the event but are requested to confirm their attendance in advance as space is limited.
