Former CCA Chair Takes Over as First Canadian President of Confederation of International Contractors Associations

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 11, 2006) - Mr. Barry Brown, President of Maple Leaf Construction Ltd in Winnipeg, Manitoba, has assumed the position of President of the Confederation of International Contractors Associations (CICA). Barry ascended to the role of President at CICA's Annual meeting held last week in Dubai. He is the first Canadian to hold the position of President of this organization.

The Confederation of International Contractors Associations is an international body representing 73 countries with a global workforce of 110 million people and economic activity worth over $US 4 trillion. It acts as the voice of the construction industry on an international basis, and interacts with such organizations as the World Bank and the United Nations. The Canadian Construction Association is represented at CICA through its membership on the Federation of Canada and United States Construction Associations, a partnership between CCA and the Associated General Contractors of America.

Barry Brown was Chairman of the Canadian Construction Association in 2002. He remains on the CCA Board of Directors, and currently acts as Chairman of the CCA International Business Committee. As President of CICA, Barry will oversee the activities of the organization, as well as a small secretariat located in Paris, France.

"On behalf of the entire Board of Directors of the Canadian Construction Association, we congratulate Barry on this historic appointment," stated Alfonso Argento, the current Chairman of the Canadian Construction Association. "Barry is a widely respected leader within the Canadian construction industry, and I have no doubt that he will represent Canada with honour and distinction in this new international role", he added.
