Former DeLorean Employees Re-Live 'The Dream' in Tell All Book

HOUSTON, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 20, 2007 -- Everyone has stories about interesting things that happened at places they've worked. One man is hoping that there are enough former employees of the original DeLorean Motor Company who will share their stories with him so that he may compile them into his forthcoming book, "I Lived the Dream - Stories from those who built the DeLorean Sports Car."

James Espey has been a DeLorean enthusiast since the late '70s, after seeing a photo of the prototype in a book. "I was hooked from that point forward," he related. "I have eaten, breathed and dreamed DeLoreans ever since."

Now, at age 40, he's "living the dream" himself, as the Vice President of the DeLorean Motor Company (Texas). When the Dunmurry factory closed in late 1982, the entire inventory was sold off to a liquidator, who eventually sold out to the Texas company, which owns the rights to the name and famous DMC logo. The company sells parts and accessories, does service and restoration and sells complete cars, as well.

"A couple years back, I read a book of stories and anecdotes compiled from former employees of the old Hudson Motor Car company, and I was fascinated by the recollections of the workers. It made me wish that there was something like that relating to the DeLorean Motor Company," he explained.

Mr. Espey has made contact with about 30 former workers from the U.S. arm of the company, which had offices in New York, California and Michigan and handled sales, marketing and the distribution of the cars. A similar number from the Dunmurry, Hethel and Coventry offices of the company in the United Kingdom where the car was designed and built have also been located.

"I've just received a fascinating story from a gentleman who was involved in the project where the factory built gold-plated DeLoreans for a promotion that DMC did with American Express," James remarked. "And another from a man here who was charged with getting the cars ready for sale, both of which will be included in the book."

This summer, the DeLorean Motor Company (Texas) will welcome DeLorean owners from all over the world at their Houston facility for the 25th anniversary of the closure of the original company. Several former employees are expected to attend and some will speak about their experiences.

"The chance to meet and speak with these people is a rare event. As time passes, memories will fade and some of the older people will pass on, and their stories will be lost forever. This book will give people the chance to tell their stories for future generations of DeLorean owners and enthusiasts around the world."
