Former Google Executive Joins Media6Degrees as CEO

Tom Phillips Set to Lead Media6Degrees and Drive Advances in Online Advertising by Tapping the Power of Social Connections

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - October 7, 2009) - Media6Degrees, the first company to offer marketers scalable customized audiences based on online social connections, has appointed Tom Phillips as CEO. Phillips was most recently head of Google Search & Analytics and orchestrated the integration of DoubleClick into Google, following years of experience in the advertising and publishing industries. Former CEO Joe Doran will remain an advisor to the board of directors and continue to develop new business opportunities for the company.

Under Doran's Leadership, Media6Degrees has achieved significant momentum with over 50 major brand advertisers by building custom audiences of like-minded people to help marketers increase the performance of their online advertising campaigns. Phillips has joined to help accelerate the company's growth as it brings an expanded product offering to market.

"Tom Phillips is one of the brightest, most experienced, most connected people in the media technology world," said Bob Greene, board member and General Partner of Contour Venture Partners. "We're thrilled to have him take the helm as we look to extend the success we've achieved with our loyal client base."

"Media6Degrees has consistently surpassed our expectations, with 30% quarter over quarter growth and a client renewal rate approaching 100%," said Tim Connors, board member and General Partner of U.S. Venture Partners. "We are delighted that someone of Tom Phillips's caliber is ready to take the baton and guide Media6Degrees to the next level."

During three years at Google, Phillips established and led the Google Search & Analytics team in pioneering new uses for Google data on behalf of major advertising clients, managed the DoubleClick integration, and led the development of a web-based bidding system for print advertising. He was previously CEO of Deja.com, which he sold to Google and eBay.

During the nineties, he was a pioneer in digital media at Starwave Corporation, where he led the teams that developed ESPN.com, NBA.com, NFL.com, Ticketmaster.com, ABCNews.com, and the first family of vertical Internet media. In 1986, he co-founded Spy magazine, and served as President and Publisher during its five years as one of the most celebrated media properties in New York. Phillips holds a BA in Applied Math from Harvard and an MBA from Stanford.

"Media6Degrees is poised to dramatically alter the profile of online advertising," said Phillips. "While search marketing has plateaued and standard display becomes increasingly commoditized, the use of social data is the new frontier. Media6Degrees has developed a singular ability to identify the connections that predict the most targeted and productive audiences for marketers. This is a rare opportunity to transform an industry, and I'm fortunate to join an immensely talented, innovative and motivated team."
