Former Kansas Governor and Deputy Lloyd's Chairman to Headline NRRA National Conference

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Jun 27, 2011) - Mark Parkinson, former Governor of Kansas who currently serves as President/CEO of the American Health Care Association (AHCA), and Graham White, Deputy Chairman, Lloyd's of London, will be major speakers at the 23rd Annual Conference of the National Risk Retention Association (NRRA), October 5-7 in Washington, Brian Braley, NRRA Chairman, announced.

Parkinson will address "The Future of Health Insurance and its Impact on Liability Exposures." More than half the nation's Risk Retention Groups (RRG) provide liability insurance to health care providers and facilities. White will discuss the global reinsurance markets and their impact on the captive insurance business in the U.S.

NRRA is the national trade association that represents the interests of Risk Retention Groups -- insurance companies authorized to write liability insurance by the federal Liability Risk Retention Act of 1986 nationally without additional regulation when licensed in a single state. There are more than 250 RRGs active today writing some $2.5 billion gross premiums.

The Conference theme is RRGs in the 21stCentury. "We were gratified recently to see legislation introduced in the Congress to provide an arbitration mechanism to resolve disputes that arise when some states impose requirements on RRGs that are not authorized in the Risk Retention Act. The bill (HR 2126) also would enable RRGs to write commercial property insurance for the first time. The legislation will be a major subject of discussion at the Conference as we seek support for early enactment," Braley said.

The Conference also will focus on a wide range of business topics including: reinsurance, portfolio management, enterprise risk management, capitalizing RRGs, premium financing for RRGs, managing litigation, and risk-focused examinations, among others."At this critical time when RRGs need to rally behind the modernization bill, every RRG president or captive manager should attend the conference," said Sanford "Sandy" Elsass, Conference Chairman.

The Conference will be held at The Ritz Carlton Pentagon city, Washington, DC. Attendees can register online at www.riskretention.org.
