Former Manchester United Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and Windsurfing Legend Robby Naish Challenge New York City Youngsters to Soccer Shootout

Event Will Launch Partnership Between Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and Coach Across America

LONDON--(Marketwire - Oct 31, 2011) - Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and windsurfing legend Robby Naish will visit the American SCORES community sports project at Jacob Schiff Field in New York City (W. 138th St. and Amsterdam Ave.) on Friday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. to challenge a group of Harlem youngsters to a soccer penalty kick shootout.

The visit will launch the partnership between the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, a charitable initiative that uses the positive influence of sport to tackle society's most pressing challenges around the globe, supporting projects on every continent, and Coach Across America (CAA), through which Laureus will fund 115 coaches to go into 45 sports-based youth projects in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Manhattan.

Van der Sar, a Laureus Ambassador, was a renowned goalkeeper for European teams Ajax, Juventus and Manchester United before retiring after the 2011 season. He was also in goal for Holland, his national team, 130 times. Naish, a Laureus Academy Member recognized as the greatest windsurfer of all time, won his first world windsurfing championship at age 13 and proceeded to win another 22. Both van der Sar and Naish are available for interviews after the soccer shootout.

Over the weekend, van der Sar and Prince Pieter-Christiaan van Oranje, Chairman of Laureus Foundation Netherlands, will be running in the New York Marathon to raise funds for Laureus Foundation Netherlands.

The mission of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is to use sport as the means to combat some of the toughest social challenges facing young people today, such as: HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, crime, social exclusion, landmines awareness, violence, discrimination and health problems such as obesity. Since its inception Laureus has raised over EUR 40 million to support projects which have helped to improve the lives of more than one-and-a-half million young people. Currently, Laureus supports 89 sports-based community projects around the world.
