On Saturday, August 3rd, Original Richard Allen Committee, Inc. (ORAC), a community organization founded 23 years ago by a small group of former residents of the housing development, located in North Central Philadelphia, will host their 23rd Annual Reunion at Lemon Hill, Fairmount Park, in the Brewerytown section of the city, at 33rd and Poplar Streets.
More than 2,000 original and current residents of the Richard Allen housing development, guests, community members, and civic leaders, are expected to attend the reunion, which will offer free food, donate school supplies, and provide a host of other activities, for attendees, and their children. ORAC will also present a total of $1,000 in scholarships to two college-bound students.
This year, high school graduates Marcus Baptise, of George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science, and Eerin Young, of Imhotep Institute Charter High School, will each receive $500 in scholarship funding to be used for books, and other scholastic materials, for the upcoming school year. Both students will begin to matriculate at their universities in August, of this year. Baptise will attend Kutztown University, in Kutztown, PA, and Young will begin her studies at University of Rhode Island, in Kingston, RI.
