Former Textron Executive Returns to Mississippi

New Owner of Accutech Prepared to Make On-Shore Sourcing a Best Practice

BATESVILLE, MS--(Marketwire - June 17, 2008) - The recent purchase of Batesville's Accutech Plastics, Inc. brings West Point, MS resident Bill Maclean full circle.

Four decades earlier, Maclean's travels as an automotive supply executive brought him to Mississippi, where he met his wife-to-be, the former Lynn Westbrook of Caledonia. Two of Maclean's four children were born in the Magnolia State, but positions with international companies like Textron, Tenneco, and Eaton Corporation necessitated various moves around the world. He left Mississippi to spend four years in Australia, and from there moved to Europe.

Most recently, Maclean has been living in West Point, MS and providing consulting services to global companies. The opportunity to get back into manufacturing in Mississippi and back into injection molding was too appealing to resist.

Accutech Products, Inc., formerly Accu-Tech Plastics, plans to build on the company's 20-year reputation as a regional innovator in the areas of injection molding, part and prototype design, over molding products, and decorating and assembly services.

"Our strategy will be to seek growth not only in the injection molding portion of the business, but also in the light assembly portion," Maclean said. "And our overarching goal as a company is to become the reliable supply alternative to high-risk, off-shore sourcing.

"We are confident that we offer an attractive alternative to offshore sourcing for medium volume producers. Manufacturers who are considering out-sourcing their plastic injection molding needs off-shore must weigh the risks of overseas logistics and look at their total landed costs," Maclean said. "We think they'll see that Accutech is well positioned with low overheads and a very reasonable price structure to offer a cost-effective, dependable -- and of course, local -- source versus Mexico or China."

The firm's former owner, Bill Byer, will remain with the company in a consulting role during the transition period.

"This new chapter in the company's history is going to be good for the customers, the employees and the community," said Byer of the transition at the business he established in 1986. "I'm particularly excited to see the quick investment in systems software, infrastructure and equipment. In just these past few weeks we are already enjoying major improvements."

Accutech serves manufacturers of consumer and industrial products with the technical expertise and practical applications to propel a project from the idea phase to final product development.

"We have good people here; a good team," said Maclean. "We are looking forward to growing our company, creating new jobs, and developing new business opportunities that will benefit the region."

Under the new ownership, strategic growth initiatives will include providing plastics injection molding products -- as well as a full spectrum of complementary services -- for major manufacturers in the South Central portion of the nation. Accutech also plans to collaborate with existing customers to enhance their products and productivity.

"Our current clients are growing fast and we want to grow with them," said Maclean. "We are coordinating with their operations as we introduce our new processes and systems."

Located on Highway 6 West, Accutech still serves many of the original customers who started with the business more than 20 years ago. The firm has been a leading area employer for the past two decades, and retains many of its long-term employees.

Maclean is well positioned to spearhead Accutech's growth initiatives. In 1999, he was named President of Textron Automotive Trim, a division of Textron Automotive Company, where he remained until the company was sold. During that time, a number of Textron's plants were selected for the prestigious Industry Week best manufacturing plants in America.
