Former U.S. CTO Aneesh Chopra Joins Apigee's Advisory Board

Apigee Opens D.C.-Area Office to Help Government Agencies Support the Digital Government Strategy

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 12, 2013) - Apigee today announced that Aneesh Chopra, the former chief technology officer (CTO) of the United States, has joined Apigee's advisory board to provide insight and counsel as the company takes its technology platform for apps, data and APIs into new growth markets. Apigee also announced that it has opened a new office in the Washington D.C. area to help agencies as they increasingly use technologies such as Web APIs (application programming interfaces) to make government data more open and efficient, in support of the Obama administration's Digital Government Strategy.

"The Obama administration has communicated a clear vision for a new digital government, and it is embracing Web APIs as the way to make this a reality," said Chet Kapoor, Apigee CEO. "We work with many of the largest businesses in the world as they transform for the new digital economy using apps, data and APIs, and we look forward to bringing our technology platform and expertise to new markets. Having served as the first CTO of the U.S., Aneesh will be an invaluable advisor to Apigee, providing counsel on areas for growth in both public and regulated sectors."

Apigee helps organizations transform and succeed in the new data-centric, mobile world. It offers Apigee Enterprise, a complete platform for creating, managing and measuring digital initiatives built on apps, data and APIs. Apigee also provides Apigee Insights, a powerful big data analytics platform that helps organizations gain new business insights in the app economy; and the Apigee API Exchange, an API interoperability platform that powers app ecosystems across any industry.

In 2009, Chopra was selected by President Barack Obama to be the nation's first CTO. He served in this role until 2012, looking at ways technology can spur innovations that help the government do a better and more efficient job. During his tenure as the U.S. CTO, Chopra led the implementation of the president's open government strategy, among other accomplishments. Prior to this position, Chopra was Virginia's fourth Secretary of Technology, and before that, he was managing director for the Advisory Board Company, a health care think tank for hospitals and health systems.

"Organizations in both the public and private sector must find new ways to use data and technology to interact with the customers and constituencies they serve," noted Chopra. "I welcome the opportunity to be an advisor to Apigee, a company that is helping organizations across industries embrace digital strategies to succeed."

Earlier this year Apigee announced that it had entered into a strategic partnership and technology development agreement with In-Q-Tel (IQT), an independent strategic investment firm that identifies and partners with companies developing innovative technologies that serve the national security interests of the United States.

"The Apigee platform can support organizations at varying stages of their API initiatives, from building effective APIs to creating meaningful business intelligence from their app ecosystems," said Robert Ames, senior vice president in charge of IQT's Information and Communication Technologies Practice. "We believe that our government customers will be able to benefit from this comprehensive set of capabilities."

Chopra will deliver a keynote address at the "I love APIs" conference, November 4-6, 2013 in San Francisco. He will discuss the promise of open innovation to unlock growth markets in health, energy and education. "I love APIs" will feature dozens of sessions led by the business and technology innovators shaping today's exploding digital world built on apps, data and APIs.
