Fort Wayne, IN Resident Wins the Monopoly Bank in Contest to Honor 75th Anniversary of World's Favorite Family Game Brand

PAWTUCKET, RI--(Marketwire - November 18, 2010) - Julie Nusbaum of Hamilton took a ride on the Reading and collected more than $200 when passing GO! as the grand prize winner in the MONOPOLY Money Makes it Real contest in the United States. In fact, Nusbaum won the entire MONOPOLY bank -- $20,580 -- in real cash!

To celebrate 75 years of buying and selling properties, and paying and collecting rent with play money, MONOPOLY decided to give away the bank and asked fans to describe what they would do if the money in the game was real. As an avid MONOPOLY player, when Nusbaum learned about the MONOPOLY Money Makes it Real contest she was driven to write a submission on behalf of her son who was pursuing an engineering degree.

During the final days of the contest, dedication to her children lead Nusbaum to encourage friends and family to vote for her entry which helped to name her as one of the 75 entrants considered for the game bank. A judging panel decided that Nusbaum's entry best reflected the commitment to the spirit of MONOPOLY, awarding her the grand prize.

WINNING ENTRY

"My son won't be 'Just Visiting' college this year, so I'll be making 'Water Works' when we say goodbye. There's no 'Free Parking' for tuition bills and his savings could fill a 'thimble,' so we're taking a 'Chance' in hopes that 'Uncle Pennybags' pulls a 'bag of money' out of the 'Community Chest' to help pay for his education! If you're 'Reading' this, please vote for us so we don't get the 'boot!'"

WINNER QUOTE

"It is an honor to have won the MONOPOLY Money Makes It Real contest -- I am still absolutely shocked and overjoyed to have won! My son was fortunate enough to be admitted to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology this Fall, and I'm thankful to MONOPOLY for helping him as he earns his degree in Engineering. It's hard to believe that the game our family enjoyed together for so many years is helping my son pursue his dream. I thank the Scottie dog for being our good luck charm!"

HISTORY
In addition to awarding a MONOPOLY bank to fans in 10 countries, HASBRO also committed to giving away a bonus game bank ($20,580) to SOS Children's Villages, a charity organization that builds houses for abandoned and at-risk children so that they can grow up in a loving home. The public voted and determined that the funds would be used for medical supplies. The funds will stock one SOS Village medical clinic with supplies for 18 months. Learn more at www.sosvillages.org.

In 1935, Parker Brothers began selling the MONOPOLY property trading game, which would quickly become a cultural phenomenon. Seventy-five years later, more than 1 billion people in 111 countries have played the game designed by Charles Darrow. Over the years, the game and the rules have remained virtually unchanged though the outer packaging has gone through many revisions.
