Fortinet Named Leader of Worldwide Unified Threat Management Market for 22nd Consecutive Quarter by Leading Market Research Firm

Fortinet Leads Market for Q2 2011 and Extends Leadership in Enterprise UTM Segment

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 21, 2011) - Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) -- a leading network security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced that new IDC Tracker research data positions Fortinet as the number one vendor in worldwide UTM factory revenue for Q2 2011, published on September 23, 2011.This data marks the 22nd consecutive quarter Fortinet has maintained its leadership position.

By leading in price band segments typically reflecting sales of multi-gigabit throughput threat management appliances, Fortinet is proving that the value of UTM is being accepted by larger organizations by winning business from large telecommunications companies and Fortune 500 companies worldwide. IDC identifies the UTM market segment as the fastest growing segment of the broader network security market and expects UTM to represent approximately 30 percent of the network security appliance market by 2014.

Data in the latest IDC Worldwide September 2011 Security Appliance Tracker indicated:

  • Fortinet leads the market with 17.0% UTM share
  • Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Q2 2011
  • Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor by factory revenue in two key enterprise price bands -- $10K-$24.9K and $50K-$99.9K
  • Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Asia Pacific, Japan and Rest of World (ROW)

According to IDC, UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device. To be included in this category, as opposed to other Threat Management appliance segments, UTM appliances must contain the ability to perform network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, VPN and gateway antivirus. All of the capabilities need not be utilized, but the functions must exist inherently in the appliance. In addition to the mandatory applications cited by IDC, all Fortinet's products include application control and other features found in emerging next-generation firewalls.

"More enterprises are using integrated security or UTM appliances to solve their network and content security challenges and reduce management complexity," said Ken Xie, founder, president and CEO of Fortinet. "We continue to see UTM adoption across a wide range of markets and verticals, and we're pleased to see that IDC's data supports this quickly growing trend."

Fortinet'sFortiGate® appliances are consolidating security functionality across wired and wireless architectures in enterprises, managed security service providers (MSSPs) and telecommunications carriers for higher performance and a lower total cost of ownership. CustomFortiASIC-accelerated security technology greatly improves the performance of the appliance's integrated UTM features, including antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, as well as many other security and networking functions, such as Web filtering, anti-spam, WAN optimization, and data leakage prevention (DLP). FortiGate systems help provide security protection through updates by Fortinet's FortiGuard® Network, to help guard against the most damaging threats, such as viruses, worms, advanced intrusions and other unwanted network traffic -- around the clock and around the world. FortiGate appliances are integrated with a broad security ecosystem product offering, including messaging, Web application firewall, database security, management and analysis systems and end-point security solutions. FortiGate appliances also contain a wireless controller so that wired and wireless infrastructures are simply implemented and more secure with one security platform. The entire security environment can be easily managed and reported through enterprise scale FortiManager and ForiAnalyzer for a single pane of glass policy and visualization.
