Fortinet Secures Florida County

Lee County Clerk of Courts Safeguards Information for More Than 585,000 Residents With Fortinet's FortiGate and FortiAnalyzer Systems

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - September 12, 2007) - Fortinet® -- the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced that Lee County Clerk of Courts in Florida has deployed Fortinet's high-end FortiGate™-5000 systems, FortiGate-1000 systems and FortiAnalyzer™ systems to help protect sensitive information such as case histories from county courts, county finance information, land records and much more.

Serving as the checks and balances in county government by acting as clerk to the board, clerk to the court, keeper of the public records, comptroller and internal auditor of county funds, it is imperative that all information at Lee County Clerk of Courts is safely protected against blended and multiple Internet threats. Previously using a network security solution provided by Symantec, Lee County decided to purchase a truly integrated unified threat management (UTM) solution for ease of management reasons. Better performance was also a key driver in looking for a new network security vendor and Fortinet's recent announcement of its alliance with HP ProCurve played a key role in the selection process because they have more than 100 ProCurve boxes deployed within their network. The combination of Fortinet and HP ProCurve makes Lee County a world-class secure network.

At its Sarasota, FL disaster recovery site, Lee County has deployed a FortiGate-1000 security appliance for antivirus, Web filtering and spam protection against Internet threats. Two FortiGate-5050™ systems are in active/active mode located at two data centers in Fort Myers, FL and are being used for antivirus, anti-spam, firewall, Web filtering and intrusion prevention. One of the FortiGate-5050 systems is being used for the public facing network and the other is for the remote agency network being accessed by the likes of the State attorney, defense attorneys and other state agencies. Two FortiGate-5001FA2 blade modules are connected to each of the FortiGate-5050 systems in clustered pairs.

Not being able to report on their network security for the past year due to performance issues of the previous security system, Lee County was in dire need of a network security reporting and analysis solution and purchased Fortinet's FortiAnalyzer-800 appliance to easily aggregate, analyze and report on log data traversing the distributed network.

"The Fortinet solution is surpassing our high expectations and demands," said Brian Bernard, senior network administrator for Lee County Clerk of Courts. "Though we were seeking a performance and throughput improvement, we now also have less appliances to manage, 24/7 availability even if a datacenter goes down, and a way to report on network usage without taking the entire network down."

Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate essential security applications such as anti-virus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard™ Network, which helps ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic and more -- around the clock and around the world.

FortiAnalyzer systems are purpose built appliances that provide valuable intelligence and simplify and centralize the collection and analysis of log and event data from Fortinet's FortiGate security appliances, delivering highly relevant network reports, valuable intelligence on network usage and assistance with meeting regulatory compliance.

"We are seeing increasing adoption of our FortiGate-5000 Series and other high-end systems with government agencies as throughput becomes more and more important," said Karl Soderlund, Fortinet's vice president, Americas. "Fortinet's high-performance unified threat management appliances allow enterprises of all sizes the ability to deploy security flexibly and scalably to meet the needs of their business."
