Foster the Partnership: Canadian GU Cancers Survivorship Conference 2011

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 19, 2011) - Patients and leading clinicians from across Canada are working to improve survivorship for cancer patients.

The group is meeting in King City, Ontario Wednesday January 19 and Thursday January 20 to devise a plan that will develop greater collaboration between patients and cancer specialists.

"Cancer survivors can play an active role in their health after treatment", says Dr. Michael Jewett, Professor, Department of Surgery (Urology) at University of Toronto and Princess Margaret Hospital. "Having doctors, nurses and cancer survivors in one room will identify major opportunities for research of urologic cancers".

The group will create a list of recommendations for improved care that will be published in a Canadian scientific journal and presented to cancer survivor organizations across the country.

The conference is supported by the Canadian Urological Association that fosters dedication of all members of the profession toward ensuring the highest possible standard of urologic care for Canadians.
