Four Bedding Items That No Bridal Registry Should Be Without

Keep the Honeymoon Alive With Simple Bedding Tips From Pottery Barn

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 3, 2012) - While planning a dream wedding is the focus of many brides-to-be, creating the ultimate bridal registry is an important way to ensure you have everything you need to make your house a home after the nuptials. From dining room essentials to guest bath necessities, there's a lot to consider. But one room that should definitely not be overlooked -- is the bedroom.

Dressing your bed in layers for extra comfort creates the ultimate sleep sanctuary. Having the right amount of bedding not only allows you to update your bedroom's look easily from season to season, it allows you to make your bed when linens are in the wash, so your room is always comfortable and inviting.

Pottery Barn, the leading home furnishings retailer in the country, offers four must-have bedding items to include on your wedding registry, along with helpful information that will let you create the ultimate bedroom retreat:

1. Sheets. Register for at least one sheet set in a neutral color, such as the best-selling PB Essential sheets in white or ivory. Our favorite Grand Embroidered and Pearl Embroidered sheet sets, each with contrast stitching, add elegance to any bed. All Pottery Barn sheet sets include a fitted sheet, flat sheet and two pillowcases. They're woven of pure cotton in your choice of 200-thread to 700-thread count. (Thread-count refers to the number of threads per square inch.) You can also personalize them with a monogram.

2. Duvets, Duvet Covers & Quilts. A duvet or quilt on top of the bed is often the focal point of the bedroom, so choose a color and pattern that reflects your style. When deciding whether to register for one or more duvets or a quilt -- or both -- here are some things to keep in mind. A duvet cover gives you the option of using a lightweight duvet in the warm months and a heavier duvet during cooler seasons. Our handmade quilts are great for layering on top of a bed or on their own and can become an heirloom that's passed down.

3. Decorative Pillows. You have a number of options when choosing pillows. Standard shams are the most common and made to fit over regular rectangular pillows. They measure 20-by-26 inches. Euro shams are a square shape slightly larger than standard shams and measure 26-by-26 inches. Mix the two together with boudoir and bolster pillows in different patterns and colors to create a beautiful bed.

4. Bedding Basics. Start with basics like plush pillow inserts, bed skirts, mattress pads, lofty comforters and, of course, a comfortable bed. The Westin Heavenly® Mattress with pillow top design provides a solid foundation for a good night's sleep. Add warmth and comfort to your bed with soft throws -- and be sure to have extras on-hand for overnight guests.

As you create your wedding gift registry, we recommend that you register for two to three complete bedding ensembles for the master bedroom and at least one for each guest bed. A bedding ensemble includes one sheet set, one duvet cover, quilt or both, plus two to four matching standard or Euro pillow shams.
