Four New Alouettes: Montreal Invites Two Defensive Backs, a Defensive Tackle and an Offensive Lineman to Camp

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 16, 2006) - The Montreal Alouettes' Vice President and General Manager, Jim Popp, has announced the signing of four new players who will be invited to training camp this spring.

Defensive backs Chip Cox and Marcus McGruder, defensive tackle D.D. Acholunu and offensive tackle Skip Seagraves have all signed for one year plus an option.

Chip Cox (5'9", 185 lbs.) is a young defensive back that attended training camp with the NFL Detroit Lions in 2005. He recorded 238 tackles in four years at the University of Ohio from 2001 to 2004. He is 22.

Marcus McGruder (5'9", 185 lbs.) was dominant while at Wake Forest with 103 yards and three touchdowns on seven career interceptions. He recorded 171 tackles in 47 games. He is 23.

Originally from Seattle, defensive tackle D.D. Acholonu (6'3", 245 lbs.) attended training camp with the Houston Texans in 2005 after being claimed off waivers from the Buffalo Bills in 2004. Acholonu recorded 124 tackles in 48 career games at Washington State, Bryan Chiu's alma mater.

Finally, Skip Seagraves (6'5", 300 lbs.) is an offensive tackle who comes straight out of the University of North Carolina. Seagraves played five seasons with the Tar Heels at both offensive tackle positions. In 2005, the Tar Heels averaged over 100 rushing yards per game. He is 23.
