Last Saturday, the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec bestowed its highest honour on 13 of its members who were awarded the prestigious title of Fellow in recognition of their exceptional commitment to the profession and remarkable contributions to the community. This important event was also an opportunity for the Ordre to present the Outstanding Achievement Award to a most deserving FCA.

This year, over 200 guests gathered at Le Westin Montréal to celebrate this career milestone of a colleague, friend or family member at a ceremony hosted by entertainment reporter Marie-Christine Proulx. Amid a burst of applause, the Ordre presented its fourth-ever Outstanding Achievement Award to Denis Desautels, FCA, for his stellar achievements, the positive impact of his work on the profession and his unwavering respect for public institutions and democracy.

Denis Desaultels, FCA, has had a remarkable and inspiring career. After over 20 years in public practice, he was appointed Auditor General of Canada in 1991. In this position, he was instrumental in the effort to improve public finances, requiring greater transparency and accountability of the federal government. His term ended in 2001, the same year he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. Since then, he has been an active member of a number of corporate and non-profit boards. An ardent supporter of efficiency and performance in government institutions, Denis Desautels, FCA, is a shining example to all chartered accountants.

After welcoming the new Fellows of the Ordre to the stage, Vice-chair of the Ordre Manon Durivage, CA, praised this year's FCAs saying: "This woman and these men enhance the reputation of the CA profession. Their passion, determination and leadership, in their work and communities, make them exceptional people. It gives me great pride to take part in this evening of recognition."

Only a few CAs out of the Ordre's 18,000 members are awarded the title of Fellow each year in Quebec. The 13 FCAs selected this year are joining the ranks of an elite group of the accounting profession, which includes 416 members who hold this title. "Again this year, we are proud to count among our members FCAs whose careers have been marked by excellence! I am confident that they will communicate their passion for success to the accounting profession's many future CAs," commented Daniel McMahon, FCA, President and CEO of the Ordre.
