Fourth Annual Opportunity Green Business Conference Expands Role as Premier Forum and "Basecamp" for Sustainable Business Development

Industry Leaders Come Together to Help Green Business Practices Go Mainstream

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - September 27, 2010) -  The Opportunity Green Business Conference, the preeminent immersive sustainability conference and startup competition facilitating exchange of industry best practices, ideas and business models, brought together Fortune 500 business leaders and green entrepreneurs to hear from speakers, learn from exhibitors and collaborate about how to accelerate environment-friendly business practice, clean technology and innovation.

The fourth annual conference, which took place September 22nd through 24th at Los Angeles Center Studios, featured addresses from Eric Garcetti, President of the Los Angeles City Council; Rick Ridgeway, VP of Environmental Programs & Communication, Patagonia; Andreas Schierenbeck, President, Building Technologies, Siemens Inc.; and Gopal Krishnan, Senior Director, Global Marketing Innovation and New Categories, The Coca-Cola Company, among others.

Last year's conference featured the first OG25 eco-startup competition, and building on the incredible success, Opportunity Green expanded the contest this year to include a second category dedicated to innovative product design. BBMG Strategic Marketing Firm, Eastman Chemical, Office Depot and the Coca-Cola Company sponsored the competitions, highlighting their commitment to environmentally responsible innovation and entrepreneurship. The contest showcased 25 of the most innovative eco-startup companies across the country along with 25 of the most cutting-edge eco-products.

Life Box™, selected by the attendees via real time text and twitter votes as the OG25 Innovative Product Design winner, is a company focused on seeded and biodegradable packaging materials. Zimride, an industry leading rideshare service, received the honor of Innovative Eco Start Up, and was awarded more than $26,000 in marketing and business services from BBMG and Office Depot.

Several hundred companies were nominated for the prestigious award through Opportunity Green's website, recommendations by Opportunity Green staff and expert consultants. Nominations came from a variety of sectors, including water conservation, waste management, food systems, product design, social innovation, transportation and mobility, and resources conservation. Nominated companies have typically been in business less than five years, have fewer than 50 employees and less than $5 million in revenue.

Zimride received BBMG's $25,000 Brand Innovation Charette as well as a $1,000 shopping spree at Office Depot. BBMG is a brand marketing firm dedicated to strategic insights and creative solutions; their team of expert marketers is committed to building brands with purpose designed to engage today's conscious consumer.

  • LACCD's NEXTREND Transportation Pavilion with prototypes from the X-Prize winners and other leading transportation and mobility exhibits
  • The three automotive X-Prize winners presented how it is possible for cars to get 100 MPG/MPG-equivalent
  • Real time crowd sourcing and feedback for 7th Generations scalability dilemma regarding distributing with large scale retailiers
