FPTT Awards Gala Honours Excellence in Technology Transfer

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 1, 2006) - More than 100 of Canada's distinguished federal scientists and technology transfer experts, government officials and members of the business community gathered at the Delta Ottawa Hotel for the 10th Anniversary Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner of the Federal Partners in Technology Transfer.



The FPTT Awards honour excellence in the transfer of technology from
federal laboratories that has had a significant economic or social
impact on Canada in the areas of health, safety, environment or
defence. Winners this year are

- National Research Council Canada (NRC), Institute for Research in
Construction, for the transfer and commercialization of a unique
compressed air foam system used to fight fires

- Communications Research Centre Canada, Advanced Radio Systems
Group, for pioneering research and development in the field of
Software Defined Radio, which has resulted in growing
commercialization of this emerging technology by industry

- Dr Steve W Cui, Agriculture and Agri-food Canada, for exemplary
leadership in the development of inventive food extraction
processes and the transfer of flaxseed dehulling technologies


"The Government of Canada commends these award winners for their remarkable achievements," said the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the NRC. "These award-winning Canadians are contributing to the strong reputation our country is gaining for important technological breakthroughs."
